Responsibilities:
Position purpose:
As a key leader within the Office of Strategic Venues & Event Services (OSVES) team, the Director for Hospitality & Events Finance serves as the principal architect of financial strategy, management, and efficiency for the department. Operating at the intersection of hospitality, operations, and fiscal stewardship, this role ensures the highest standards of financial accuracy, insight, and excellence in alignment with the university’s mission, vision, and values. The Director provides leadership and oversight for a Finance Coordinator and student staff, fostering a collaborative environment that supports OSVES’s expanding portfolio of venues, events, and revenue generating initiatives. Functioning as an embedded financial partner, this role maintains a direct and active connection with University Financial Excellence leadership, ensuring that financial strategies, processes, and decisions are aligned with the institution’s foundational goals.
Essential Functions:

  • Direct the full scope of financial planning for OSVES, including the development, oversight, and continuous management of multi-million-dollar operating and capital budgets; Analyze financial and operational performance across internal and external events to identify trends, assess profitability, and inform strategic recommendations for growth and improved operating results; Deliver consistent, actionable financial reporting and data summaries that support informed decision-making and drive departmental effectiveness.
  • Oversee all accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice management, reconciliations, settlements, aged debt management, and related financial processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to institutional and regulatory requirements; Ensure compliance with GAAP standards, university financial policies, and all federal regulations governing non-profit and educational institutions.
  • Develop deep expertise in all relevant financial and operational systems, such as Elite, Banner, Axiom, Argos, and BPS, ensuring timely communications, upholding data integrity, and enabling process improvements.
  • Modernize and optimize financial workflows, including automated invoicing, automated aged debt management, cost-of-sales analysis, and vendor contract evaluation to strengthen margins and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Oversee the on-boarding, training, and off-boarding of OSVES finance team members, ensuring consistent standards, strong role preparedness, and continuity of operations. Provide ongoing mentorship and coaching to all OSVES finance staff and student workers, fostering a supportive, growth‑ oriented environment where team members can thrive.
  • Cultivate strong, collaborative relationships across campus, fostering shared problem-solving and bringing forward the best collective thinking; Ensure timely, transparent communication and cross-departmental coordination, facilitating effective issue resolution and smooth operational flow; Translate complex financial concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-financial and non-events stakeholders, empowering informed decision-making.
  • Support and enhance OSVES’s vendor relationship management, ensuring clear communication, timely task completion, and alignment with service and financial standards.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

Project/Program/Service Management: Ability to coordinate and administer programs/project activities and protocols. Ability to manage resources, monitor activities, and assess risks and quality issues associated with the program/project.
Written and Oral Communications: Ability to present information to individuals or groups; ability to deliver presentations suited to the characteristics and needs of the audience. Ability to convey information clearly and concisely to groups or individuals either verbally or in writing to ensure that they understand the information and the message. Ability to listen and respond appropriately to others. Ability to impact and influence others to further the institution’s strategic objectives.
Technical, Computer, and Software Skills: Ability to use Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and basic databases and software. Ability to aggregate data, generate reports, create pivot tables, etc. at expert level.
Other:

  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to respond to high-pressure situations. Ability to thrive in an environment of hard work.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Required Education Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or equivalent. Master's Degree preferred.
Required Experience Experience: Minimum four to six years of finance leadership with progressive responsibility; Minimum two to four years supervisory experience with at least one direct report; hospitality experience a plus; seven to nine years experience preferred.
The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University.
