Director of Schools & Sector Strategy

Organization: Nashville Charter Collaborative, NCC

Reports to: Subira Gordon, Chief Executive Officer

Location: Hybrid (Nashville, TN)

Classification: Full-Time, Exempt


Overview: The Director of Schools & Sector Strategy is responsible for proactive and responsive work to support the needs of NCC member schools, as well as the strategy to ensure a healthy, high-quality charter school sector in Nashville.


Key Responsibilities:


Charter Sector Monitoring:

  • Assess and analyze trends in the local and statewide charter sector, including enrollment patterns,

authorization activity, school performance, and policy developments.

  • Provide strategic leadership to monitor and respond to charter openings, closures, mergers,

replications, and consolidations that may impact NCC member schools.

  • Maintain awareness of changes in charter law, regulations, and authorizer practices relevant to

the Nashville charter sector.

  • Synthesize sector data and insights as inputs to inform NCC strategy, member school supports, and external communications.
  • Share timely, actionable updates with internal teams and member schools to support planning,

decision-making, and advocacy efforts.


Strategic Leadership:

  • Provide strategic thought partnership to NCC member school leaders and school boards by

offering guidance and insights on their strategic direction, operational challenges, and

opportunities, charter renewals, and other key issues.

  • Curate and maintain a trusted network of vendors, consultants, and partners, providing strategic

guidance on partner selection and use aligned with school goals.

  • Collaborate with the NCC Executive Team to design and implement NCC-funded resources that

advance school improvement, enrollment growth, mergers or consolidations, and sustainable

expansion.


Relationship Building:

  • Build and sustain strong, trust-based relationships with member school leaders and staff.

Provide reliable, responsive partnership to member schools, ensuring their perspectives, needs,

and priorities are understood and reflected in the NCC’s work.

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with authorizers, funders, vendors, and

community partners to support collaboration and trust.

  • Collaborate with member schools by identifying shared challenges, opportunities, and best practices.
  • Represent NCC professionally and consistently in all interactions, strengthening the

organization’s credibility, influence, and effectiveness.

Required Qualifications:

This position requires a valid driver's license, reliable personal transportation (car), and proof of adequate

personal auto insurance, as the individual will be required to drive to attend job-related functions. Other required qualifications include:

  • Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple projects, with

excellent attention to detail

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders

and adapt messages depending on the audience

  • Proven track record of developing strategies and systems, managing resources, partnerships, and using

data-driven approaches to achieve goals

  • Demonstrated expertise in charter regulations, K-12 education policy and politics, school

startup/expansion work, and/or school operations, strongly preferred

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, and thrive in a high-energy, fast-paced

environment

  • Collegiality, a strong work ethic, sound judgment, and a commitment to professionalism, ethics, and

civility

  • Proficiency with G-Suite or Microsoft Office

The NCC team works in a hybrid setting, with the option to work from home or use our Nashville office as desired. In addition, there are regular in-person meetings at the office, in schools, or in other settings. We are flexible on set business hours to meet the needs of our team members, but the role does require a daily presence (Monday to Friday) at predictable times. This role will have some evening, weekend, and holiday obligations.


Compensation and Benefits:

The NCC offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role is $130,000-$160,000, and benefits include paid time off, paid parental leave, and medical benefits. This position is eligible for the organization’s 401(k) plan, with up to a 5% employer match.
