Salary: Band 5 – £33,787 to £42,766
Contract: Permanent, full time
Location: Doncaster or Scunthorpe (2 positions)
Reporting to: Associate Director (Examinations)
Lead, coordinate and deliver examinations with confidence and precision
We are recruiting an Exams Team Leader to play a key role in the delivery of a professional, compliant and student‑focused examinations service. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced examinations or student data professional looking to progress into, or strengthen, a leadership role within education.
You will lead a dedicated Exams Team, managing day‑to‑day delivery of examinations at your site while working collaboratively with senior colleagues to ensure consistency, compliance and service excellence across the wider organisation.
The role
As Exams Team Leader, you will be responsible for the operational delivery of examinations and related processes, ensuring that all activity is carried out accurately, securely and in line with JCQ and awarding organisation regulations.
You will line manage a customer‑facing team, coordinate workloads across a busy academic cycle, and act as a trusted point of contact for staff, students, parents and external stakeholders. Working closely with the Associate Director (Examinations) and fellow Team Leaders, you will help shape best practice, improve processes and support continuous service improvement.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Line management and development of Exams staff, including workload planning and performance management
- Day‑to‑day coordination of examinations at your site, including timetabling, rooming, invigilation and exam conduct
- Ensuring compliance with JCQ and awarding body regulations at all times
- Acting as the local point of contact for examinations advice and guidance
- Supporting examination entries, registrations, results days, post‑results services and certification
- Managing secure handling and storage of examination materials
- Liaising with curriculum teams, IT, SENCo and Quality colleagues to support effective delivery
- Supporting audits, inspections and visits from awarding bodies
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes, data quality and service efficiency
- Deputising for senior colleagues when required
About You
You will be organised, confident and calm under pressure, with the ability to manage complexity, deadlines and competing priorities. You will enjoy leading people, solving problems and delivering a high‑quality service in a regulated environment.
Essential Criteria
- Recent and relevant experience in examinations administration or student data services (or equivalent transferable experience)
- Strong working knowledge of JCQ and awarding organisation requirements
- Previous experience managing or supervising staff, ideally in a customer‑facing environment
- Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and database systems
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A professional, service‑focused and proactive approach
Desirable
- Experience using a student information system such as ProSolution
- Experience coaching, training or developing staff
- A higher‑level qualification in a relevant field
