About This Position
The User Technology Specialist (UTS) at the Phoenix Public Library plays an important role in providing secure, privacy focused, and efficient technology services that ensure reliable access to library systems and services. The Phoenix Public Library is constantly shifting and adapting as the needs of the community change. The primary role of the UTS within the Phoenix Public Library is to deliver front-line IT support, including imaging, deploying, and troubleshooting desktop and laptop computers for staff and public use. This position installs and configures software and hardware, supports peripheral devices such as RFID pads, receipt printers, and hand scanners, and resolves basic wired and wireless network connectivity issues. The UTS also responds to service desk tickets through a ticketing system, provides phone and email-based support, and technology support for the public hotspot lending program. This role emphasizes strong communication, problem solving skills, and collaboration with team members to maintain dependable technology operations across all library locations.
The evolving nature of the Phoenix Public Library's digital ecosystem demands continuous education to stay current with rapidly changing software environments, security practices, and library specific technologies. This position requires strong analytical and diagnostic skills to investigate and resolve complex issues involving day-to-day library systems. Proficiency with scripting tools such as PowerShell is highly preferred, as automation and script-based troubleshooting are essential for efficient management of large device fleets and for improving consistency in system maintenance. The UTS must be adaptable, forward-thinking, and capable of applying technical expertise in a dynamic and mission critical environment.
The part-time Library IT User Technology Specialist will be responsible for covering weekend and night shifts, (typically Tuesday 3pm - 7pm and weekends 8am - 5pm). Scheduling is subject to operational needs and may vary from the example schedule. This position is 20 hours a week, located at Burton Barr Central Library.

  • Proficient in configuring, deploying, and troubleshooting enterprise desktops and laptop computers, as well as printers, scanners, and business applications.
  • The ideal candidate demonstrates strong schedule flexibility and is willing to work variable evening and weekend shifts as needed to support library operations.
