Summary
Job Description:
Public Safety Aides (PSAs) assist the University Police by conducting patrols, providing escorts, community watch, ticketing, parking enforcement, office work, traffic direction, presentations, special events, and other exciting opportunities. This is an exceptional opportunity for a student to familiarize themselves with campus, establish contact with University administrators, and meet high-profile individuals. It is also an excellent starting point for students interested in careers in criminal justice.
Essential Functions

• Enforce parking policies on all campus properties.
• Provide customer service to all campus community members and guests.
• Maintain consistent communication with supervisors via radio and phone.
• Positively represent the PSA program, the Office of Parking and Commuter Services, the American University Police Department, and the University as a whole.
• Provide support to the American University Police Department when necessary, often during special events such as Commencement or Move-In.
• Follow PSA policies/procedures and the directions of supervisory staff.
  

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work

• Part-time.
• 9 hours per week.
  

Salary Range

• $17.95 - $19.25 per hour.
  

Required Education And Experience

• Strong customer service skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
• Successfully complete all new hire paperwork and pass initial training.
• Incoming or current AU student.
• Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. University Safety & Security Services reserves the right to review students’ academic and judicial records.
  

Preferred Education And Experience

• Experience with iPhone-based applications and handheld radios.
• Ability to handle challenging situations.
  

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

• More hours are available with promotion.
• Availability during the hours of 8 am - 8 pm, Monday through Friday.
