Job Overview
JOB DESCRIPTION
The primary responsibility of the RTOC – M/LWD is to monitor the DS jobs utilizing his/her skills, experience, and available RTOC hardware and software resources. The RTOC – M/LWD is the first point of contact, for M/LWD technical support, for the field personnel. The RTOC – M/LWD should timely identify the job-related risks and hazards; and intervene to prevent equipment failures and non-productive time. The RTOC – M/LWD shall seek the Subject Matter Expert (SME) support for complex and critical problems to provide an adequate and timely solution. Follows the corresponding steps of the Drilling Engineering process.
Responsibilities
- Must know and comply with the RTOC Standard and approved local Appendices.
- Follow the drilling engineering “Rules to live by”.
- Comply with standards, internal processes, drilling instructions and operational procedures during the job planning and execution phases.
- Establish and maintain constant communication with in-line management.
- Participate in all RTOC pre-job meetings.
- Ensure remote-control application screens are connected or ready to be connected. (in situations of low field bandwidth) (TV lagging Field System).
- Utilize the relevant job experience in troubleshooting any change in scope operations.
- In case of the incident the RTOC M/LWD must follow approved local incident/ event management process and establish the communication with management. The local incident / event management (OEPS Document – RTOC Event Management Process) shall comply with RTOC standard. If local incident / event management process is not established, follow the RTOC Standard (2.3.2 Incident Management Process).
- Follow approved intervention process to provide the assistance with operations when required.
- The RTOC M/LWD has the full authority to STOP the job if current rig operation leads to Quality or HSE incidents.
- Should perform pre-run paperwork / programming verification. The Field Engineers to submit to RTOC M/LWD on duty pre-run programming for all runs to be QC’d by RTOC.
- Shall validate the proper GeoMag Reference Input in Spectrum Navigator for each MWD run.
- Perform TFO Spectrum verification.
- The RTOC M/LWD must establish the communication with M/LWD at the rig site and provide the verbal or written confirmation on TFO value and TFO measurement procedure before running the BHA below the rotary table. The Field Engineers must submit the necessary pre-run TFO paperwork to RTOC M/LWD on tour. FOM to be included on insufficient submission email reply.
- Monitor all jobs in the Geozone in real time via approved remote-control application, WITSML streaming and /or WITSML LWD submissions. The designated high-profile jobs require closer attention to ensure the rig crew follows the proper procedures and instructions. In instance of high-profile / high-complexity jobs the well data access is requested from RTDS and the field crew is required to enable WTSML communication/ streaming. If the direct WITSML data streaming is not available, third party EDR (Electronic Data Recorder) access to be requested with appropriate mnemonics for WITSML data streaming.
- Deliver a quick update reports on rig related issue to relevant personnel.
- The update report to include Out of Specification (OOS) conditions encountered / mitigation employed / troubleshooting attempted / component issue. (directional drilling, hydraulics, controller etc.).
- Responsible for ensuring that operational specifications (limits) of the downhole DD/LWD tools are not exceeded.
- Quality Check CORE submission and upload to Reliability. The Field Engineers to submit CORE files post-run and post-well to RTOC M/LWD on tower. Any insufficient CORE submissions to be sent back to field and FOM / PLM to be included.
- The JAR file generation is not direct responsibility of RTOC M/LWD. The RTOC M/LWD should help with JAR file generation when possible and doesn’t interfere with direct responsibilities. JAR files to be initially completed by FOM as per job call out / load out. Field Engineers to submit to FOM any requests for JAR files while job is ongoing.
- Field Email Submission Integrity – RTOC M/LWD to ensure compliance with field submission emails. (ex. Subject nomenclature)
- In conjunction with Technical Alerts the RTOC M/LWD to be central point in collecting/ uploading all required failure submissions and posting to designated database in correct format. Any issues with gathering information to be brought to FOM’s attention via email.
- Proactively support the field personnel to ensure that operational specifications (limits) of the downhole M/LWD tools are not exceeded.
- Conduct RTOC self-audits in their districts, report findings to the RTOC Manager, and actively follow up to complete audit’s corrective actions.
- Perform various duties and activities as assigned by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job.

- Must understand and comply with all safety rules and company policies of Weatherford.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in M/LWD operations
- Thorough knowledge of Drilling Systems products and services
- Bachelor’s degree in oil and gas related technical discipline – Electrical, Instrumentation, Petroleum Engineering
- English proficiency at advanced level
Skills
- Demonstrate the knowledge of anti-collision analysis
- Experience and ability to solve problems and perform with minimal supervision.
- Ability to use multiple sources of data to formulate, test, and verify failure modes in M/LWD and relative surface equipment
- Familiarity with the different forms of vibration encountered while drilling
- Complete the Measurement Academy class -certificate, level
- Have sufficient experience with M/LWD tools used in Geozone to provide adequate technical support to field personnel.
- Submit the Valid AC101 certificate
- Competent with Microsoft Office
- Basic skills of the latest Weatherford software necessary to perform daily tasks
- Excellent communication, organization, troubleshooting and teamwork skills. Positive attitude and a high degree of self-discipline and motivation
- Able to relate to rig-site personnel at all levels.
- Experiences with Rotary Steerable tools / Mud Motors
