This project will alleviate poverty by refining the programs offered by the Community Healing and Mental Health Project (CHAMP) through participatory research. The summer associates' contributions will be targeted towards improving mental health outcomes, reducing behavior-related school suspensions and dropout rates, curbing gun violence, and lowering teen incarceration rates in vulnerable populations. The lasting effects of this program will empower communities to overcome challenges by supporting individual healing and community resilience.

Member Duties : The summer associates will assist in developing weekly Think Tank agendas for the Unity Healing Camps. They will also prepare prototype feedback tools, develop structured reflection questions, coordinate reminders for youth communication and engagement, and organize consent/assent documentation. The summer associates will administer wellness screeners when appropriate, support prototype testing and usability conversations, and collect qualitative and quantitative data. Other activities include facilitating breakout brainstorming sessions, encouraging peer-led idea generation, preparing leadership exercises and journaling prompts, tracking attendance, leading small group discussions, and collecting feedback surveys. Summer Associates will also be performing the activities of tracking referrals, intake preparations, appointment reminders, and developing family resource sheets. The summer associates serving with CHAMP will also receive trauma-informed training.
