The VISTA project will strengthen The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command’s capacity to serve vulnerable populations in the DC Metro area. The Grants and Research Associate will support expanding Emergency Disaster Services, increasing meal distribution, growing the grants portfolio, and enhancing volunteer and donor engagement. Responsibilities include researching funding opportunities, assisting with grant proposals and reports, and maintaining the grants database. This role builds understanding of the organization’s programs while increasing funding to expand impact, helping the Salvation Army serve more than 70,000 people annually.

Member Duties : The VISTA Summer Associate will strengthen grant capacity by conducting research, supporting proposal development, and improving grant management systems. Activities include identifying and tracking funding opportunities; researching funders and maintaining grant databases; assisting with writing, editing, and assembling grant proposals; and supporting submission processes. The member will collaborate with program staff to gather data, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with funder requirements. They will also maintain accurate records in the CRM system, track deadlines, and support donor stewardship. Through these activities, the member will build sustainable systems that increase funding opportunities and enhance The Salvation Army’s ability to serve the community.
