About the Role
This is not a traditional broadcast meteorology role.
We are seeking a technically sophisticated weather scientist who combines:
• Alpine forecasting
• Atmospheric science
• Python/data workflows
• Forecast modeling and verification
• Modern analytics
• AI literacy
The primary focus of this role is improving resort-level weather forecasting and skier-focused weather intelligence.
Primary Areas of Focus
1. Improve resort-level forecast accuracy across base, mid-mountain, and summit elevations.
2. Build skier-focused weather parameters including snow line, snow density, powder quality, and wind impact.
3. Develop lightweight data science models and forecasting methodologies.
4. Back-test historical weather and snowfall scenarios.
5. Improve skier-facing forecast interpretation and trust.
Key Responsibilities
• Improve mountain-specific weather forecasts
• Analyze snowfall, freezing levels, wind, terrain effects, and snow quality
• Build dashboards, visualization tools, and verification workflows
• Work with APIs, weather datasets, and numerical weather models
• Build and test lightweight predictive models
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams
• Help improve SkiGPT weather intelligence
Required Qualifications
• Degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Physics, Environmental Science, Hydrology, or related field
• Strong understanding of mountain/alpine weather systems
• Experience with numerical weather prediction models
• Strong Python/data analysis skills
• Experience with APIs and structured datasets
• Strong analytical and quantitative thinking skills
• Strong written English communication
Preferred Qualifications
• Alpine snowfall forecasting experience
• GIS or geospatial analysis experience
• Machine learning or predictive modeling familiarity
• Forecast verification experience
• Passion for skiing, snowboarding, or mountain environments
Technical Skills
Strongly Preferred:
• Python
• Pandas
• Jupyter
• APIs
• GIS
• Forecast model interpretation (ECMWF, GFS, HRRR, ICON, etc.)
• Data visualization
Bonus:
• Machine learning
• SQL
• Remote sensing / satellite data
• Cloud infrastructure
Compensation commensurate with experience.
