Our client is an international FMCG company, among the global leaders in its category, renowned for its strong brands and sustained growth across multiple markets. In Romania, the company has built a solid presence with products distributed through both Traditional Trade and Modern Trade, relying on strong partnerships with distributors and retailers nationwide.
The company is seeking an Area Sales Manager to drive sales performance and execution excellence in the field, ensuring effective implementation of commercial and trade marketing initiatives at store level.
This role is strongly field-oriented, requiring close collaboration with distributor field teams, store management, and internal stakeholders to deliver sustainable growth and high execution standards in the market.
ROLE OVERVIEW
This is a field-based individual contributor role responsible for delivering sales volume and value targets within the assigned area through strong in-store execution and effective implementation of commercial and trade marketing initiatives.
Reporting to the National Sales Field Coordinator, the Area Sales Manager plays a key role in translating commercial strategies into concrete actions in the market. The position combines disciplined route execution, continuous market monitoring, and strong relationship management with local customers and distributor partners.
The role requires extensive presence in the field and close collaboration with the distributor’s sales representatives, merchandising teams, store management, and internal stakeholders to ensure consistent execution, optimal product visibility, and sustainable sales growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Deliver assigned sales volume and value targets through effective management of the allocated area
• Ensure excellent in-store execution, including shelf availability, product placement, display implementation, and reduction of out-of-stock situations
• Implement sales and trade marketing initiatives according to the commercial plan
• Monitor local market dynamics and identify opportunities to grow the business
• Build and maintain strong commercial relationships with key decision makers at store level
• Collaborate closely with the distributor’s sales representatives and merchandising teams to ensure consistent execution in the field
• Influence order generation and support sell-out growth for both distributor and direct customers
• Develop and implement local initiatives and promotions to increase sales and visibility
• Manage the allocated sales and trade marketing budget with a focus on positive return on investment
• Provide regular and ad-hoc reporting on market performance and field activities
The position requires extensive field presence (approximately 80% field activity) and disciplined route planning.

CANDIDATE PROFILE
• Minimum 5 years of experience in sales, with a proven track record in the FMCG industry
• Experience in roles such as Area Sales Manager, Sales Supervisor, or similar field leadership positions
• Experience working with distributors and indirectly managing field teams
• Solid understanding of Traditional Trade commercial processes and in-store execution
• Strong field orientation with the ability to translate strategy into action at store level
• Excellent relationship-building and negotiation skills
• Structured, organized, and self-disciplined working style
• Ability to work independently and prioritize effectively
• University degree in Economics, Business, or a Technical field
• Strong PC skills (MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Valid driving license
• English language skills are considered an advantage
