The Backup Engineer Proximity is a key member of the IT infrastructure team, responsible for managing and maintaining enterprise-grade backup solutions across a multi-national environment. This role demands deep technical expertise in backup technologies, strong collaboration skills with remote teams, and the ability to document and standardize operational procedures.

Requirements:

• Over 5 years of experience managing enterprise backup infrastructure
• Proven ability to lead and collaborate with remote and distributed teams
• Skilled in documenting technical procedures, creating runbooks, and maintaining internal knowledge bases
• Proficient in English (minimum B2 level)

🛠️ Backup & Recovery Expertise

• Proficiency with backup platforms such as CommVault, NetBackup, or EMC Networker
• Capable of designing and managing backup policies, job scheduling, and restore/recovery operations
• Experienced in troubleshooting backup failures and optimizing performance
• Familiar with backup reporting tools, monitoring dashboards, and alert systems
• Knowledgeable in data retention strategies, archiving solutions, and disaster recovery procedures

💾 Storage & Operating Systems

• Basic to intermediate administration skills for Windows and Linux operating systems
• Solid understanding of enterprise storage technologies including SAN, NAS, Nutanix, and VMware vSAN
• Ability to diagnose and resolve storage-related issues impacting backup efficiency
• Familiarity with patching and upgrade processes for Windows and Linux (e.g., Altiris, SuMa)

⚙️ Automation, Cloud & Databases

• Experience with scripting and automation using PowerShell, Bash, and Python
• Basic understanding of AWS cloud services and their integration with backup solutions
• Foundational knowledge of database engines such as SQL and Oracle

Responsibilities:

Backup Administration

• Administer and maintain enterprise backup platforms (CommVault/ NetBackup/ Networker also acceptable)
• Monitor backup jobs, troubleshoot failures, and optimize performance

Documentation & Knowledge Management

• Create and maintain runbooks, SOPs, and technical documentation
• Contribute to internal knowledge bases and ensure procedural consistency

Monitoring & Reporting

• Configure and manage backup reporting tools, dashboards, and alerting systems
• Analyze trends and proactively address potential issues

Disaster Recovery & Data Retention

• Implement and enforce data retention and archiving policies
• Support disaster recovery planning and execution

Storage & OS Support

• Perform basic to intermediate administration of Windows and Linux systems
• Troubleshoot storage-related issues impacting backup operations
• Understand and support storage technologies such as SAN, NAS, Nutanix, and VMware vSAN

Collaboration & Communication

• Work effectively with remote and cross-functional teams across multiple geographies
