We are seeking Engineering Team Leads to oversee quality and delivery for our application-level products. You will manage a compact team of 3-5 engineers developing educational applications that serve thousands of students.
Potential Products Include

• Athena: AI-powered videos and assessments that produce measurable learning results
• TeachTap: AI-driven platform that animates historical figures within a TikTok-style educational interface
• TeachTales: Customized storytelling experiences that enhance reading comprehension
• TrashCat: Game-based learning designed to make education enjoyable and interactive
  

This position combines individual contribution with leadership: you will spend 50% of your time building sophisticated features and 50% mentoring and supporting your team. Your responsibilities include defining quality standards, creating architectural patterns, conducting code reviews with instructional commentary, and fostering engineer development. Team success is your accountability, not merely personal code output.
Small team structure, substantial ownership, minimal administrative overhead. Your focus is technical leadership; people management responsibilities rest elsewhere.
What You Will Be Doing

• Developing sophisticated features that establish technical patterns for the team
• Conducting pull request reviews with comprehensive, instructional commentary
• Mentoring engineers through pair programming and constructive feedback
• Organizing technical initiatives and decomposing project requirements
• Defining quality benchmarks and ensuring team adherence
  

What You Won’t Be Doing

• Handling people management tasks (recruitment, termination, performance evaluations, career planning)
• Developing platform-level infrastructure components
• Attending continuous rounds of meetings
• Designing architecture without hands-on implementation
  

Basic Requirements
Engineering Team Lead key responsibilities

• Minimum 5 years of full-stack development experience
• Minimum 2 years in a leadership capacity (conducting code reviews, mentoring developers, defining team standards)
• Proven history of delivering SaaS products
• Experience integrating AI tools into development processes

Working with us
This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record. The compensation level for this role is $100 USD/hour, which equates to $200,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly.
