Founding Software Engineer

Experience with public registries, financial data, or risk and compliance systems. Familiarity with geospatial data. Comfort provisioning infrastructure independently, including containers, cloud, and deployment.

About the role

This is a founding engineer role on an early-stage platform. The successful candidate will take ownership of the full technical stack, spanning data ingestion, backend services, and the user interface. The role suits an engineer who is comfortable taking end-to-end ownership and working independently.

Responsibilities

• Building and maintaining systems that ingest data from a variety of external sources, including public registries, REST APIs, and raw files, where the primary challenge is reliability across inconsistent inputs.
• Designing and maintaining a PostgreSQL database that transforms raw inputs into clean, queryable, and trustworthy data.
• Developing backend services and the logic that links records across sources and prepares normalized data for downstream use.
• Building the user interface through which the platform is accessed.
• Implementing automated validation so that data completeness, freshness, and accuracy can be relied upon without manual oversight

Requirements

• Proven experience building production systems across backend and frontend, including data ingestion from messy external sources.
• Strong command of Python and PostgreSQL, including queries, indexes, and schema design.
• Experience building user-facing interfaces and the backend services behind them.
• Experience integrating external APIs and working with large, inconsistent datasets.
• Proven experience deploying and operating production systems on major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), while keeping infrastructure lean and costs under control.
• A demonstrated ability to take ownership of a system end to end.
• A bias toward shipping working software over extended design cycles.
