Role Overview

We are seeking a motivated and technically strong Java Quality Engineer to join our growing team in Bucharest, supporting the delivery of enterprise-scale solutions within Financial Services.

This opportunity is ideal for Java developers who are passionate about software quality and automation and are looking to expand their expertise within Quality Engineering. The role combines hands-on Java development with test automation, API validation and quality engineering practices, making it well suited to engineers who enjoy building robust solutions and working closely with development teams throughout the software delivery lifecycle.

The successful candidate will work within cross-functional Agile teams, contributing to Java-based automation frameworks, API testing initiatives and continuous improvement activities across business-critical platforms. You will collaborate closely with Developers, Business Analysts, Product teams and Quality Engineers to help deliver scalable, resilient and high-quality applications.

We are particularly interested in candidates with strong Java engineering fundamentals, experience working on complex systems and an interest in applying software engineering principles to quality engineering challenges.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to deepen both development and testing expertise within large-scale, distributed environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain Java-based test automation frameworks and tooling
• Build automated test solutions that integrate with modern development and CI/CD workflows
• Perform functional, integration, exploratory and API testing across enterprise applications
• Collaborate closely with software engineers and Agile delivery teams throughout the SDLC
• Develop and execute automated and manual test scenarios aligned to business requirements
• Support continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices
• Analyse, troubleshoot and resolve defects across complex distributed systems
• Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives and Agile ceremonies
• Work closely with stakeholders to ensure high-quality software delivery within agreed timelines
• Identify opportunities for automation improvements, process optimisation and quality enhancements
• Support test environment management, defect tracking and reporting activities
• Promote quality engineering and software engineering best practices across teams and projects

Key Skills and Attributes

• Strong commercial Java development experience
• Solid understanding of object-oriented design, software engineering principles and coding best practices
• Experience with automated testing and API validation
• Experience contributing to or extending automation frameworks using Java
• Strong understanding of application architecture and system behaviour
• Comfortable discussing Java concepts, design patterns and technical implementation details in depth
• Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery environments
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to work effectively within fast-paced enterprise environments
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to software quality

Preferred Experience and Knowledge

• Experience within Financial Services, Capital Markets or enterprise-scale technology environments
• Exposure to high-availability, distributed or mission-critical systems
• Experience with API testing frameworks such as RestAssured and tools such as Postman
• CI/CD pipeline exposure (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps)
• Strong SQL and database validation experience
• Familiarity with Git, Jira and modern testing frameworks
• Experience working within regulated or complex delivery environments is advantageous
• Candidates from software engineering-led organisations with strong Java development backgrounds are highly desirable
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field preferred
• Relevant certifications in Java, testing or Agile methodologies are advantageous
