We're looking for a strong Java Software Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team within one of our financial services clients.

The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time developing and maintaining Java applications, while also contributing to API testing, automation frameworks and overall software quality.

What you'll be doing

• Design, develop and maintain enterprise Java applications.
• Build and enhance backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
• Develop and maintain REST APIs and microservices.
• Contribute to existing automation frameworks and improve software quality.
• Perform API and integration testing where required.
• Work closely with Developers, QA Engineers and Product Owners in an Agile environment.
• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices.

Essential Skills

• Strong commercial Java development experience.
• Excellent knowledge of Core Java and object-oriented programming.
• Spring Boot and Spring Framework.
• REST API development.
• SQL and relational databases.
• Experience working with microservices.
• API testing experience.
• Experience contributing to automated testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito, TestNG or similar).
• Git and version control.
• Agile/Scrum delivery.

Nice to Have

• CI/CD exposure (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps or similar).
• Docker and Kubernetes.
• Kafka or messaging technologies.
• Oracle, PostgreSQL or MongoDB.
• Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or Oracle Cloud).
• Financial Services or other enterprise-scale environments.

Candidates should demonstrate:

• Strong Java engineering capability before testing expertise.
• Confidence discussing Java concepts, architecture and design patterns in technical interviews.
• Experience building enterprise applications rather than simply executing automated tests.
• Ability to extend and improve existing automation frameworks rather than only writing test cases.
• Strong understanding of APIs, backend systems and software engineering principles.
• Experience working on large, complex systems within Agile teams.
