About the role We are looking for a Junior Software Developer / L1 Application Support Engineer to join our team. This is a dual-focus role, combining:
- L1 Technical/Application Support for one of our OTT clients.
- Junior software development for our company's internal applications.
You will support the OTT client's users and systems, handling first-level incidents and service requests. Separately, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of our internal applications using Java and PHP.
This is an entry-level position with support and guidance from more experienced team members.
1.L1 Technical Support — OTT Client
You will act as the first point of contact for the OTT client.
Your responsibilities
- Act as the first point of contact through Jira, email, internal messaging tools and phone.
- Provide first-level technical/application support for customer issues and service requests.
- Troubleshoot application and usage problems using documented procedures and knowledge-base articles.
- Monitor and investigate basic incidents, alarms and system alerts.
- Log, categorize, prioritize and track incidents in Jira.
- Perform basic, documented break-fix activities.
- Follow established troubleshooting and escalation procedures.
- Escalate issues to L2 support when they cannot be resolved at L1.
- Keep tickets updated with clear and accurate information.
- Ensure tickets are handled within agreed SLA response and resolution processes.
- Communicate professionally and clearly with external stakeholders and internal technical teams.
You are not expected to solve complex technical or application issues at L1. Your role is to troubleshoot using available documentation, resolve straightforward issues where possible, and escalate appropriately.
2.Junior Software Development — Internal Applications
Separately from the OTT support activities, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of our company's internal applications.
Your responsibilities
- Develop and maintain small features and fixes using Java and PHP.
- Work on clearly defined development tasks.
- Investigate and fix straightforward software bugs.
- Read and understand existing code.
- Work with REST APIs, JSON, HTTP and SQL databases.
- Write and modify basic SQL queries.
- Use Git for source-code management.
- Write and maintain basic tests.
- Perform basic debugging and troubleshooting.
- Participate in code reviews.
- Work with senior developers when a task requires additional technical guidance.
The development work is focused on our internal applications and is separate from the OTT client's platform.
What we're looking for
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of Java.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of PHP.
- Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP).
- Basic knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
- Basic understanding of REST APIs, HTTP and JSON.
- Familiarity with Git.
- Ability to read and understand existing code.
- Good analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to follow documented procedures.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working with ticketing systems such as Jira.
- Willingness to learn and ask questions when needed.

What does the development side look like? You might receive tasks such as:
- Fix a bug in the PHP application.
- Add a small feature to the Java application.
- Modify an SQL query.
- Update an API endpoint.
- Investigate why a function is returning an incorrect result.
You should be able to understand the requirement, investigate the existing code, make the change, test it and ask for help when necessary.

Previous professional experience is helpful, but internships, university projects, personal projects or relevant technical experience can also be considered.
