The Digital Payments domain is responsible for designing, building, and operating ICT solutions that enhance UniCredit’s digital product offering for Corporate and SME clients. Our platforms run across on‑premise and cloud infrastructures, enabling secure, resilient, and high‑performance payment and cash‑management services through a unified digital platform.

What you can expect from us

As part of the Payments & Cash Management team, you will work as a Software Engineer, contributing hands‑on to the development and operation of mission‑critical payment and messaging systems.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Working within an international and inclusive engineering team delivering enterprise‑grade banking solutions.
• Designing, developing, and maintaining Java‑based backend services supporting payments and SWIFT financial messaging.
• Implementing and maintaining messaging integrations, leveraging MQ‑based technologies to ensure reliable, secure, and high‑volume message exchange.
• Developing and supporting SWIFT message interfaces, ensuring correctness, performance, resilience, and regulatory compliance.
• Working hands‑on with SWIFT MT (ISO 15022) and MX (ISO 20022) messages, including parsing, validation, enrichment, and routing.
• Implementing message transformation and mapping logic, supporting the migration from ISO 15022 to ISO 20022.
• Contributing to run and change activities, including incident analysis, bug fixes, enhancements, and standardized release processes.
• Supporting the full software development lifecycle, from development and testing to deployment and production support.
• Collaborating closely with Business Analysts, Solution Architects, Operations, Security, and Compliance teams.
• Supporting platform evolution initiatives such as cloud adoption, modernization, and performance optimization.
• Contributing to delivery using agile methodologies, with a strong focus on software quality, stability, and maintainability.

What we expect from you

We are looking for a Software Engineer with a strong backend and integration focus, who is comfortable working in complex enterprise environments:

• 1–4 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer or similar role.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Java (enterprise or backend development) and according frameworks e.g. Spring, MVC
• Experience working with messaging systems such as IBM MQ or equivalent (queues, topics, asynchronous processing).
• Understanding of integration patterns (message‑based integration, synchronous vs asynchronous communication).
• Familiarity with SWIFT or SEPA financial messaging or payment processing systems is a strong advantage.
• Working knowledge of SWIFT MT and MX message formats (ISO 15022 / ISO 20022), or strong willingness to learn.
• Experience with message transformation and mapping concepts.
• Basic understanding of cloud platforms (preferably Google Cloud), including core concepts such as compute, networking, and deployment models.
• Familiarity with API‑based architectures (RESTful services).
