About the client

One of our clients is the Investment and Corporate Banking subsidiary of a highly-reputed global Tier-1 bank with over 7000 employees in their service. One of the top five largest banks in North America, this institution manages assets of over $650bn and is renowned for being a trusted partner with a consistently high capital base and established presence in all the mature Capital Markets worldwide.

About the Programme

Our client’s Rates Derivatives IT team is responsible for delivering and maintaining technology solutions that support the bank’s global Rates trading and Counterparty Risk business, working in close partnership with the CVA desk. The platform underpins pricing, exposure and XVA calculations, risk analytics, and regulatory reporting capabilities, operating as a critical component within the Markets Technology landscape. The Counterparty Risk platform is currently undergoing a strategic transformation, transitioning from an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) model to a modern Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) cloud-native architecture. This evolution aims to improve scalability, resilience, performance, and operational efficiency while enabling faster delivery of business-driven enhancements.

As part of this transformation, the programme focuses on implementing workflow orchestration and leveraging both Azure and AWS cloud stacks, while continuing to meet the time-sensitive requirements of the CVA desk. The target architecture emphasizes containerization, automated CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and event-driven workflows to enable flexible deployment, improved observability, and reduced operational overhead.

About the Role and Responsibilities

As the Team Lead, you will join a cross-location engineering team to lead a team working on Python development for the bank’s risk platform. Your responsibilities will include:

• Hands-on development at enterprise systems level
• Active participation in architectural and technical discussions
• Contribute to workflow design and system integration decisions
• Own and improve delivery quality and engineering standards
• Provide occasional L2/L3 support, particularly related to analytics components (in C++)
• Mentor and guide a team of 3 people
• Support team coordination (capacity planning, holiday coverage, knowledge continuity)

Key Skills

Must have:

• Strong hands-on development experience in Python
• Experience working with large enterprise applications rather than web apps
• Experience in microservices architecture, REST APIs and service integration
• Experience working in Linux environments
• Experience working with containerized applications - Docker, Kubernetes
• Familiarity with GitHub workflows / GitHub Actions
• Solid understanding of CI/CD principles

Nice-to-haves:

• Strong understanding of C++
• Messaging systems experience (Solace preferred; MQ/Nats acceptable with willingness to cross-train)
• Familiarity with enterprise workflows and distributed system design
