Job Title: Project Manager – BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems)

Location: Bucharest, Romania (with frequent travel to project sites)

About the Role

An international renewable energy business is looking for an experienced Project Manager to take full ownership of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in Romania. You'll lead the project from engineering and design through procurement, construction, commissioning and grid connection, with safety, budget and schedule all on your watch.

This is a hands-on delivery role, not a desk job: you'll be on-site regularly, supervising contractors directly and driving the project forward yourself.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead utility-scale BESS projects from inception through to commercial operation date (COD)
• Supervise EPC contractors, subcontractors and Owner's Engineer teams to keep quality and schedule on track
• Oversee technical design review for battery storage systems, auxiliary facilities and substation integration
• Enforce a strict HSE culture, ensuring full compliance with local and international standards
• Act as primary point of contact for grid operators, local authorities and consultants
• Coordinate FAT, SAT, cold/hot commissioning and grid-code compliance testing
• Own project budgets, procurement milestones and risk registers, reporting directly to senior management

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering
• Proven, hands-on experience managing utility-scale BESS projects, candidates without direct BESS delivery experience will not be considered
• Strong knowledge of HV/MV substations, grid integration and EPC contract structures
• English required; Romanian is a strong advantage
• Full Romanian/EU working rights required
• Valid driving licence and willingness to travel frequently to project sites near Bucharest
