Position: Senior Data Engineer (B2B / Freelancer Contract)
Location: Remote open to candidates based in the European Union
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Data Engineer to join our remote team. The role focuses on developing, optimizing, and maintaining Python-based ETL pipelines within an Azure Synapse environment. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of data systems while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with excellent communication skills and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize Python-based ETL pipelines within Azure Synapse.
• Maintain and enhance existing data workflows for reliability, scalability, and performance.
• Manage the capacity and sizing of cloud service components.
• Oversee the operations and maintenance of software, infrastructure, and databases.
• Integrate and manage data connections through Power BI APIs.
• Monitor system performance and ensure SLA compliance.
• Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation.
• Continuously optimize configurations and processes across multiple environments.
• Collaborate with development, architecture, rollout, and operations teams to coordinate releases and upgrades.
• Participate in risk assessments and audits related to data services and infrastructure.
  

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 5-10 years of professional experience in data engineering.
• Minimum 2 years of experience with Python for data processing (Polars, Pandas, PySpark, etc.).
• At least 1 year of hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure.
• Strong understanding of cloud architecture and ITIL principles.
• Experience with Azure Synapse, Delta Lake, and/or Power BI.
• Familiarity with Business Intelligence (BI) and data analytics projects.
• Exposure to DevOps practices and tools.
• Knowledge of DataVault 2.0 methodologies is a plus.
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in distributed and cross-functional teams.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in SaaS-based data platforms.
• Strong problem-solving and performance-tuning skills in large-scale data environments.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in dynamic, fast-paced projects.
