The WSP Bucharest office, established in March 2006, comprises over 150 permanent staff covering Structural, Mechanical and Electrical engineering, Green Building Certification services, Environmental disciplines and Software development.
Requirements
Senior Mechanical (HVAC) Engineer is responsible for providing design and supervision services within the projects undertaken by WSP.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer reports to the Line Manager and performs his / her activities as coordinator of a design team aiming to deliver specific projects in due time and of appropriate quality.

Design activities:
•
Prepare feasibility study reports to meet brief requirements in the agreed format and review with project leader;
•
Work with client & design team to assemble a design specification compliant with the employer’s requirements, agree its format and content, and monitor and review its preparation ensuring delivery by the due date;
•
Agree and monitor scope of works and report to the project leader in due time any potential delays or variations;
•
Clearly define building requirements and purpose of use with senior team member to allow detailed design;
•
Carry out detailed design to WSP and Romanian/European Regulations standard ensuring Construction Design Management (CDM), Quality Assurance (QA) and technical review and sign off by project leader, including complex calculations and co-ordination issues;
•
Establish heating and cooling loads, water/thermal agent flows using different software packages;
•
Prepare services drawings for HVAC/Public Health infrastructure to include: thermal agent and ventilation distribution routes, terminals location, plant equipment, etc. in 2D or 3D as required;
•
Size and choose Mechanical equipment using various software packages;
•
Prepare HVAC/ Public Health functional schematics (PIDs);
•
Write the specification for the projects and establish the schedules for all equipment;
•
Prepare bills of quantities;
•
Prepare due diligence reports;
•
Gain an appreciation of sustainability and Environmental Managements Systems issues and incorporate requirements into project delivery;
•
Review and monitor the production of calculations including Quality Assurance, technical reviews and sign off;
•
Ensure that information for project budget costing preparation is completed in requisite detail and to deadlines, and keep the QS informed regarding design progress through explanation of design decisions;
•
Provide documentary information to assist in the preparation of tender documents, ensuring that information for tender preparation is completed in requisite detail and to deadlines, and keep the QS informed regarding design progress through explanation of design decisions;
•
Co-ordinate project contracts documents (drawings and specifications) and reviews input from team members;
•
Report to the client any variance between the works constructed and the design intent;
•
Manage medium/large projects, using applicable project management tools;
•
Communicate with the design team members to convey the project requirements to them, as well as understanding the client brief;
•
Follow in full the document control, archiving CDM and QA processes relevant to project work, ensuring drawings, specifications, reports and correspondence are issued, and filed in an appropriate manner, coach junior staff in their usage.
•
Research and review design options for both technical and economic impact;
•
Evaluate contractor submittals and write required reports;
•
Stay updated with relevant technical developments within the discipline;
•
Support line manager in planning resource needs and escalate as required if there are resource concerns;
•
In conjunction with line manager identify, assess and manage technical project risk;
•
Provide regular project status updates, including risks or concerns, to line manager;
•
Inspection and monitoring of the progress of the Mechanical works as the designer’s representative, aiming to ensure the works are carried out at an appropriate quality, and are in accordance with the Designer’s specifications;
•
Deal with the day to day queries from site, ensuring that relevant information is available on time for construction activity;
•
Prepare progress and technical reports as required;
•
Respond to contractor queries and attend site progress meetings;
•
Assist at testing & commissioning process and provide reports as required.
•
Flag resourcing concerns to team leader and assist colleagues to ensure team timelines are met;
•
Lead by example and ensure QMS and Project Lifecycle compliance across team and projects;
•
Supervise, coordinate and support Engineers and CAD Technicians;
Job Requirements
•
Relevant Engineering degree (Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering – HVAC and/or Public Health/Building Services or similar);
•
Minimum 5 years’ experience of designing Mechanical systems in a variety of building types;
•
Experience and proven ability to supervise projects and project team;
•
Project experience should include participation from the design phase through the final construction close-out;
•
Experience in detailed design of large and complex developments;
•
Detailed technical knowledge of design capability;
•
Familiarity with Romanian and European design standards and Health and Safety regulations;
•
Good experience of writing specifications, design, and detailing of Mechanical systems;
•
Working knowledge of computer aided design package Revit, AutoCAD and other specific software
•
High proficiency of English reading, writing and speaking;
